Happy Birthday Faja

It's one of those Sundays where you have a Mexican breakfast and lots of bread. Who respects Sunday morning and not Saturday night anymore? Obviously not the man who raised me.

Today is my dad's birthday. I was joking about the hangover, he probably hasn't had one of those since his service days. But the respect for Saturday morning line is deserving because it comes from a song and band me and my dad love: Soldiers of Jah Army (SOJA). The song is "Everything Changes", a political statement about the trajectory of change and our place within it. I love the bold, abrasiveness of the meaning and the audacity to express it freely. I never was a big reggae fan until I made it to San Diego and made friends with a couple guys from Guam. They cemented me into the tunes and I haven't stopped listening since.

I played the song for my dad a month or two ago and whenever we're listening to music together, he loves when I play it. So this one goes out to the one I love and maybe if you like it, the one you love.

You can listen to the sunshine reggae here

Happy Birthday Dad!!
